This is the definition of touristocracy, written in 2020 for a dictionary of neologisms.

Touristocracy

(from Tourist, someone who practices tourism, and from greek Kratos or -cracy, rule, strength)

  1. The power of transformation of the tourist over an environment or over a population.

  2. The diffusion of services in an environment whose clients are exclusively people on holiday.

  3. The phenomenon that generates a difference of prices, between residents and tourists, for the same service. Is the sum of the purchase power of every single tourist that is trying to buy an experience in a place.
